co-branding

here's an interesting example of co-branding i mentioned earlier in the process.

it's most interesting to me because vans started out hardcore roots underground skateboarding, where as most people see baseball as a mainstream thing. at the same time, people take serious pride in where they're from, and because baseball is so huge, the logos are recognized everywhere in representation of said cities.

two brands with different target markets, accomplishing geo-local success through co-branding. interesting indeed, what are your thoughts?

  1. i think the other great advantage of the co-branding that took place is that the baseball franchises were able to produce more cheaply through van's production resources than they ever could have hoped to produce on their own. they also know how to design an awesome shoe.

even though i'm not sure how many baseball branded shoes there are on the market, these look pretty dang nice. i would wear those angels ones…

  2. yes, great point about production resources. i have seen multiple examples of team branded footwear sold at stadiums... however, they're always super cheesy, super cheap shoes with no production quality. yet people still buy them simply because they want to represent their team.
